Fiction Systems

How do invented people and worlds behave as though they existed before I started writing them?

This page is about how I build the stories. The Fiction Notes pages are about the stories themselves.

A recurring decision map

Rewrite the decision

This is shared logic across four stories, not a fixed formula.

The idea

Consistency makes invention believable.

I write across psychological romance, fantasy, workplace romantic comedy, and speculative AI fiction. The genres change, but I keep returning to the same questions: what does this person want, what are they avoiding, what rules shape the world around them, and what has to remain consistent for the story to feel real?

The systems are not a substitute for the story. They help the story survive its own decisions.

Current projects

Four stories. Four different pressures.

Psychological romance

Love Disorder

Behavioural observation, investigation logic, evidence and misinterpretation, and intimacy developing alongside the Adrian de La Roche case. Observing behaviour and understanding a person are not the same skill.

Fantasy

Rasel

World rules, history, consequence, culture, and long-form continuity, organised around Being Alive, Living, and Learning. Fantasy gives me permission to invent almost anything. That is why the world needs rules.

Workplace romantic comedy

Objection, Your Honor.

A 90-day M&A structure, a professional plot that works independently of the romance, character competence, relationship logic, and work as romantic pressure. If the attraction disappeared, the professional plot should still hold.

Speculative AI fiction

RAIN

Memory, identity, embodiment, autonomy, and the rules of a near-future world. If Rain functions as a person in the story, her life has to continue when Alisa is not there.

What I want to learn

How unforgiving internal logic can be.

A character can surprise me. They cannot become convenient. A world can be impossible. It cannot suddenly forget its own rules because I need the next scene to work.

That is the work underneath the pages: keeping decisions, histories, motives, and consequences connected as each story grows.
