I tend to like love stories more when love is not the only thing happening to the characters.
The films I return to usually leave room for work, loneliness, ambition, identity, social rules, adulthood, or the much less romantic problem of deciding who someone wants to become.
That is probably why a conventional romantic comedy can sit comfortably in the same list as Her, The Lobster, or Up in the Air.
I am interested in attraction.
I am more interested when attraction has to compete with the rest of a life.
